James P. Lees

Across more than eight years working on some of Britain's most ambitious storytelling projects, I've learned that the most extraordinary stories are often hidden in plain sight. From remote expeditions and landmark factual series to working with Sir David Attenborough, those experiences shaped a creative approach built on curiosity and visual storytelling. Today I develop and direct films across documentary, culture and branded content, bringing that same perspective to every project.

'Making fact more magical than fiction'

The shots here reflect an approach that runs through much of my work. The below, directed for The Americas, draws on the visual language of cinema to make a real story feel more immediate, emotional and memorable. Whether working in documentary, branded content or social formats, I'm interested in finding unexpected perspectives and creative ideas that reveal something deeper about the world around us.
